WORLD VITILIGO DAY; JUNE 25, Every year.
Why is it important to observe this day? I think this day is more important to be observed by those who are not carrying vitiligo than those who are carrying vitiligo. The reason for this is very simple, nothing happens physiologically or anatomically to the person having white patches as this is as normal as a white spotted cat, pigeon, cow or even elephant.
Many times we human beings forget that we are also animals and those types of animals who are not uniformly colored like buffalo.
Vitiligo is not a disease at all. It's just a system of skin's color in which somewhere melanin is uniform and somewhere melanin is engulfed by one's own antibodies.
There are many dogmas related to the cause of vitiligo and related system of treatment. Since my childhood, I am trying on all possible treatments but could just anyhow control its proliferation.
Lately, after getting time to think deeply and finding out the common concepts in all types of treatment what I found is there is equal importance of patience, perseverance, commitment, discipline and proper dosage of the medicines.
Either it's Psoralein or Methoxalein or Tincture of Psoralea Cor or Oil of Bakuchi, these all contain a stimulant that gives the signal to the skin that burning is going to happen, this signal is intensified when sunlight falls on the skin. It perhaps increases the absorption of UV rays on the skin too as a result of the skin is exposed to the sun after applying any of the above then skin burns severely.
Treatment of this ailment takes place within a zone between underdose and overdose, underdose will not do any good and overdose will make the skin condition poor. Although dermatologists suggest minimum to maximum time of exposure to the sun, it's up to the patient to decide the threshold erythroderma level ( a condition in which skin is about to turn pink but it does turn pink, if the skin turns pink in a day or two, it would develop into burn blister. So after every exposure, thorough washing with soap is necessary followed by SPF-50 protection and physical protection from light using various types of skin-friendly fabrics.
Folliculation once takes place, covering up of white patches doesn't take much time but patients lose patience and either they overdo or give a gap.
According to my experience, if the skin is not burning, optimum sunlight is provided twice a week with long gap an in-between suitable steroid is applied, any spot can get covered with natural pigment within 90 days.
Neither give up taking Vitamin C only because sour food is prohibited, this is also one reason in delaying to start pigmentation nor start having lots of fruits assuming vitamin deficiency is causing this disease. God has provided good food not only to eat but to share to, you may share half an Apple or another fruit with your near ones so that your vitamin C intake is regular but not too much in one go.
Have a balanced diet. It gets cured you know....... But if it has spread to the large surface of your body then wait, you will look like a fair looking person one day, that too will suit your look.
This is just a friendly note from my experience as a patient. I am not a doctor, I am a teacher by profession, I am M.Sc. Chemistry with very little understanding of medicine and treatments.
